Captain of a fast schooner that ferried passengers between Neverwinter and Waterdeep. His ship was attacked by a large ship carrying giant ballistae. The mast was damaged in the attack, but not put out of commission. An excellent commander, Captain Ventus managed to outrun the large vessel, but damaged his mast further by pushing his vessel to its limits, and was forced to limp into the port of Waterdeep. These events occured a few months ago, and Avon, the dwarven barmaid who runs the Whirlpool (his favorite tavern in the Dock Ward) has not seen him since.
Malagoth and Bran found Captain Ventus living in a small house that had fallen into disrepair in the North Ward. The captain told Mal the story of how a frost giant wearing a large red stone around his neck attacked his ship, nearly sinking it, but managed to lose the giant longboat in a fog bank. The ship had sustained so much damage that when he limped into port, he dejectedly sold the ship and retired. The two seafarers traded stories, and Ventus told the barbarian about the ancient legends of a war between white dragons and frost giants, and how the dragons froze the giant's longboats into a glacier.
As Mal turned to leave, the captain gave the barbarian his old adventuring shield, a magical shield with the symbol of Umberlee emblazoned in the center.
